GMA Network (GMA) is a major commercial television network in the Philippines. GMA Network is owned by GMA Network, Inc. a publicly listed company. Its first broadcast on television was on October 29, 1961, GMA Network (formerly known as DZBB TV Channel 7, RBS TV Channel 7, GMA Radio-Television Arts then GMA Rainbow Satellite Network) is commonly signified to as the "Kapuso Network" in reference to the outline of the company’s logo. It has also been called the “Christian Network” which refers to the apparent programming during the tenure of the new management, which took over in 1974. It is headquartered in the GMA Network Center in Quezon City and its transmitter is located at Tandang Sora Avenue, Barangay Culiat also in Quezon City.

More than 100,000 dead in Haiti quake, officials say

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) - At least 25 members of the Philippine peacekeeping contingent in Haiti are feared trapped inside the collapsed United Nations Stabilization Mission building after a magnitude 7.0 quake rocked the Caribbean nation Tuesday (Wedensday in Manila), a Philippine official reported Wednesday.

Philippine military spokesman Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner told ANC's Dateline Philippines that Lt. Col. Lope Dagoy, commander of the Philippine peacekeeping forces in Haiti, has reported through his wife that some Filipino soldiers were trapped inside the building that collapsed right after the country was struck by the earthquake.

Elmer Cato, press officer of the Philippine mission to the United Nations, also said earlier Filipino peacekeepers were trapped at the collapsed United Nations Stabilization Mission building.

He said the Philippine peacekeeping force is composed of 157 officers and enlisted personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and 22 personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News, Lt. Col. Limar Galicia, deputy commander of the

peacekeeping operations center in Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac, said he was informed by the New York Permanent Mission via email that at least 23 Filipino peacekeepers may have been trapped inside the

New! Gmail Tips

White belt: I get a few messages a day

1.Use stars to indicate a note is special.

Use stars to easily mark certain messages as important or indicate that you need to reply to them later. Try Superstars in Gmail Labs for more star options.

2.Reply by chat.

Before you respond to an email, check the footer of the message to see if the other person is online. If they're available, you can save time by clicking "Reply by chat" and get them in real-time rather than over email.

3.Organize your email with labels.

Labels do the work of folders, plus you can add more than one to a single message. Give important emails brightly colored labels, and you'll be able to scan your inbox and quickly find the good stuff.

4.Clean up your inbox using "Move to" -- it works just like folders.

You can use the "Move to" button at the top of your inbox to easily move a message out of your inbox and add a label at the same time -- just as if you were moving it to a folder. If you have lots of labels, you can pick the one you want by typing the first couple characters and let auto-complete find the right one.

5.Search your mail instead of sorting.

Instead of sorting by date or sender, you can enter keywords in the Gmail search box to find the exact message you're looking for. It works just like Google search: if you're looking for a message that contains the word "shopping," simply type shopping in the search box and press Search Mail.

6.Archive messages to tidy up your inbox without deleting anything.

Gmail gives you tons of free storage space so you can save everything you want. While messages in your trash get deleted after 30 days, archived messages are kept forever. Archiving messages moves them out of your inbox and into "All Mail" for safekeeping, so you can search for them later. It's like moving old email to a giant storage room that you never have to organize.

7.Import your email and contacts from your old address.

If you're new to Gmail, you can import your mail and contacts from other email providers, including Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, and many more from the "Accounts and Import" tab under Gmail Settings. You can even choose to have your messages forwarded from your other account for 30 days, giving you time to take Gmail for a test drive.

8.Spice up your inbox with a theme.

Choose from over 30 options to personalize your inbox. Go to the Themes tab under Settings and pick from nature themes, themes that change with the weather, and many more.

9.Join forces to rid the world of spam.

Gmail users play an important role in blocking spam -- when you report an email as spam, our system quickly learns to start blocking similar messages. The more spam the community marks, the smarter our system becomes. If you see a spam message, click "Report Spam" to do your part.

Top 25 Facebook Games for December 1, 2009

Last month we compared the 11 month span between the present and our first Top 25 list. Even then the difference in monthly active users was absolutely astounding. Of course, in the past month, it has only increased. To recap, the top game, one year ago, was (Lil) Green Patch, a simple 2D virtual-garden-like game that garnered around 6 million users a month. FarmVille, now has nearly 69 million users. Facebook’s growth to much more than 300 million monthly active users has certainly contributed to the rise of social gaming, but we continue to wonder how much social gaming has contributed to the growth of Facebook itself.

November saw a great deal of individual game growth throughout most of the Top 25, but the top five have not changed in the slightest – something we haven’t seen in a while. The month also saw the rise of CrowdStar, as well as the rapid growth of Zynga’s FishVille and the belated appearance of Mobsters 2. Beyond this, there was a great deal of churn across the board. Here are the highlights:

• Zynga’s FarmVille continued its growth by more than 6 million monthly active users to nearly 70 million. However, this is only a little more than half of what it earned last month. Meanwhile, YoVille lost more than 500,000 users and going from from #6 to #8. Roller Coaster Kingdom stayed at #11 with close to 15.5 million MAUs.
• CrowdStar’s Happy Aquarium continued to grow, holding on to the #4 spot, despite the number of Zynga titles around it. The virtual aquarium game is followed on the list by Playfish’s Pet Society at #5. CrowdStar’s second title on the list, Happy Pets, came in at #22 with almost 5.5 million users.
• After weeks on our Top Gaining Charts, FishVille has made a splash at #6 with more than 21 million users.
• MindJolt Games lost 1.1 million MAU to land at #12.
• And finally, long after its initial release, Mobsters 2: Vendetta from Playdom has made its way into the charts with roughly 5.3 million MAUs, followed by another newcomer, My Fishbowl from 6 waves at #24 with a monthly user count just shy of 5 million.[via www.insidesocialgames.com]

Foreign Apps and Valentines on This Week’s Top 20 Emerging List

New applications from around the globe and a non-Zynga attempt at a Farmville gifting app brings in players on this week’s top 20 emerging list for the week ending January 7. The emerging list is a way to spot rapid growth in titles that ended the week with below 1 million monthly active users.

2010’s first app to go from zero to first on the top 20 emerging list is FarmVille Gift Sender. According to AppData, the Farmville “add-on” (it’s a separate app) shot from nothing to reach more than half a million people in its first week. This isn’t surprising considering Farmville’s 30 million plus daily active users who presumably make up most of the app’s audience. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Zynga get this app shut down shortly due to its intellectual property issues.

Garden World is Tall Tree Game’s flower-growing app, and a game that has been live since last year. This week sees a restart for the app with the ability to see neighbors/friends gardens adding to a new overall total. That addition has boosted the app to have the highest gaining percentage of any app on the list with 99 percent this week, or 433,000 new players.

Users must have been inspired by the confident name, because Three Kingdoms Online – Best Browser Game of 2009! is in the top five two weeks in a row. The app moves up one spot to third and has a MAU of 460,000 players.

Perhaps speaking too soon about seasonal apps, Will you be my valentine? makes a strong showing with 47 percent an MAU of 395,000 and over a month to gain users before Valentine’s Day on February 14th. The app is benefiting from a strong showing last year and it will be interesting to see if any new titles are released this month to capitalize on the season the same way developers did for Christmas.

Foreign language apps appear to be coming in to their own with regular appearances on all top 20 gaining lists. Six foreign language apps make up this weeks top 20. Four are Chinese-language apps: 快打之王, Chinese New Year Gift – 新春禮物,  歡樂癲地 Funland and 傾城 Online.

Chinese New Year Gift – 新春禮物 gained the most users from last week, making its first appearance on the list at 14 with 128,000 MAU and rising 81 percent this week. Meanwhile 快打之王 (“King of Kombat”) fell the most spots this week of any app, eight spots from last week where it ranked third overall.

Yılbaşı Kartları (“Christmas Cards”) is in its second week on the list and is the first Turkish app on a top 20 list. Turkey typically trades gifts around New Years which explains the Christmas theme, but its still a large number for any Turkish app.

zelim ti.. (“I want you ..”) is another small language app making its first appearance on the list. The app received a 54 percent increase for a seventh place spot on the list, its first appearance on the emerging list and probably the first Serbian language app on a top 20 as well.

Travel Balloon has the highest MAU this week and should break through the emerging lists restrictions once again to top 1 million MAU next week as long as its growth stay consistent. It will be joining last weeks title Ma Fiche which broke 1 million users this week.[via insidefacebook.com]

International Poker Tournament

 PAGCOR will be conducting one of the biggest in Asia and the biggest ever locally-organized poker tournament in the Philippines.  “The First PAGCOR Chairman Efraim C. Genuino International Poker Tournament” guarantees a prize pool of US$1 Million.

The tournament is set on March 20 – 25, 2010 with eliminations at the Manila Pavilion Hotel in historic Manila, Philippines.  It will be one of the main events of the 5th Asian Gaming and Entertainment Expo (Asia’s GEM) at the SMX Convention Center where the tournament’s final table will also be held.

Alice in Wonderland 3D Movie Trailer

Director Tim Burton is working on new Alice in Wonderland movie which will be released in 3D. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is based on the Lewis Carroll novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The role of Alice is portrayed by Mia Wasikowska. Johnny Depp,Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway are also onboard, respectively as the Mad Hatter, the evil Red Queen, and the White Queen.

The movie Alice in Wonderland 3D is set for a release in March 2010.
